Information on the professional meetings and workshops the Landsat EPO team has been involved with.

 

2009

July 16 • Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). Through a partnership between BIE, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and NASA, Landsat Education and Public Outreach co-conducted a half-day workshop on remote sensing data analysis for ten BIE high school teachers and administrators.

July 7-9 • Chesapeake Bay Workshop. Landsat Education and Public Outreach staff co-conducted a three-day workshop July 7-9, 2009 for ten middle school teachers on NASA observations of Chesapeake Bay. Presenters included personnel from the GSFC Education Office and several other Earth Science missions.

Jun. 14-19 • iGETT final summer institute held in Corpus Christi, TX.

Mar. 9-13 • American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS); Baltimore, MD. "Promoting Geospatial Workforce Development by Building Bridges among Stakeholders," panel moderated by by Landsat E/PO team member; "Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training (iGETT)," paper presented by Landsat E/PO team

Nov. 17–20 • Pecora-17; Denver, CO. "Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training" talk presented by the Landsat EPO team.

Nov. 11–15 Landsat Education and Outreach at 2008 National Interpreter's Workshop

Oct. 29–31 • "Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training (iGETT): Enabling Community and Tribal College Faculty to Meet Geospatial Workforce Needs, 2007-2010" poster presented at National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education Principal Investigators Conference Oct. 29-31, Washington, D.C.

Oct. 9–12 • "Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training (iGETT): Enabling Community and Tribal College Faculty to Meet Geospatial Workforce Needs, 2007-2010" poster presented at National Council for Geographic Education annual meeting in Dearborn, MI.

Jul. 29 • Together with scientist Eric Brown de Colstoun EPO staff created and presented a full day workshop as part of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Institute on Environment and Ecology.

Jul. 23–24 • EPO staff developed and presented uses of Landsat in the classroom to over 50 teachers at the Sally Ride Science "Earth Then, Earth Now: Connecting with Climate Change" educator workshop on July 23 and 24th. This workshop was cosponsored by NASA and NOAA.

Jun. 15–28 • The second two-week iGETT summer institute held in Corpus Christi, TX.

Apr. 15–18 • iGETT and "Landsat & the Chesapeake" at Association of American Geographers, Boston, MA

Mar. 27–30 • Eric Brown de Colstoun presided over a presentation session at the recent 2008 National Conference of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) in Boston MA. He also presented a talk entitled “Landsat: Helping Students and Educators Keep an Eye on the Pulse of the Planet” where he highlighted many of the Landsat educational activities and data sets that are available to them for use in their classrooms. The NSTA National Conference is a very large conference (>15000 attendees) bringing together educators from the entire nation to learn about the state-of-the-art in teaching tools/materials but also for professional development.

Jan. 16–18 • Anita Davis presented National Parks and NASA: Compelling Place and Space-Based Climate Change Education at the National Council for Science and the Environment’s annual conference, “Climate Change Science and Solutions,” The presentations was part of a panel discussion on Integrating climate Change in K-12 Education.

 

2007

Nov. 28A Creative Edge: Integrating Communities for Geospatial Training and Workforce Development presented at the NASA Goddard Education Colloquium

Nov. 13–16 • Landsat EPO staff attended the NASA Science Web Federation meeting at NASA Ames in Mountain View, CA to speak and learn about way to better manage NASA websites.

Nov. 5–7 • The Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska conducted a GIS User Conference in Juneau, AK, which included a a half-day workshop on the fundamentals of remote sensing with Landsat by Jeannie Allen.

Oct. 17–19 • Landsat at NSF Advanced Technological Education conference

Oct. 26 • iGETT at Association of American Geographers, Mid-Atlantic Region; Suitland, MD: Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training (iGETT)
iGETT is a three-year faculty development program funded by the National Science Foundation to support the integration of land remote sensing data with two-year college GIS programs in order to meet geospatial workforce needs.

Jul. 29–Aug. 4 • The first two-week iGETT summer institute held in Corpus Christi, TX.

Apr. 16–20 • Landsat at the Biennial George Wright Society Conference

Apr. 17–21 • Association of American Geographers, San Francisco, CA

Dec. • American Geophysical Union winter conference, San Francisco, CA: Bridging the Divide: Translating Landsat Research Into Usable Science.
