A Landsat 7 image of Maracaibo, Venezuela acquired on November 1, 2002.

The city of Maracaibo, aka La Tierra del Sol Amada (The Beloved Land of the Sun), was founded in 1529 by Ambrosio Alfinger, who named the area Villa de Maracaibo. Today, it is the second largest city in Venezuela with a population of approximately 1,500,000.  Maracaibo is located off the western coast of Lake Maracaibo in northwestern Venezuela.

In this image Maracaibo is grey, vegetation is green, water is blue, and bare ground is brown.

This Landsat 7 image was acquired November 1, 2002. This natural-color image was created using ETM+ bands 3, 2 and 1. Maracaibo falls on Landsat WRS-2 Path 7 Row 53.
