Texas Wildfires 2011

A Landsat 5 image of Texas acquired on April 18, 2011.

Over 1 million acres of land have been burned by wildfires since April 6, 2011.  Drought, low humidity, and strong winds continue to help feed the fires.  Winds as high as 60 mph have been registered.

In this image red indicates burn scars.  The Swenson fire to the northeast and the Cooper Mountain Ranch fire to the southwest caused the burn scars in this image together they have burned over 280,000 acres. Vegetation is green, water is blue, and bare ground is pink and light red.

This Landsat 5 false color image was created using TM bands, 7, 4 and 2. It was acquired April 18, 2011.  This image falls on Landsat WRS-2 Path 29 Row 37.
