The Landsat Program - Images
- Greek Fire Scars
- On the Peloponnesus Peninsula in southwestern Greece severe wildfires
burned large tracts of land late this summer (2007). Many satellite
images, including Landsat images, were used to create fire maps
for disaster response teams.
- Land Ho!
- Four-hundred years ago, on April 26, 1607, after 144 days at sea,
John Smith made landfall on Virginia's Cape Henry. His exploration
and careful surveying of the Chesapeake Bay resulted in the first
published map of the estuary. See how accurate he is compared
to a geocorrected Landsat 7 image of the bay.
