Landsat & the Intertribal Timber
Council
- Jun. 4–7, 2007 • Landsat staff participated in
the Intertribal Timber Council's (ITC) 31st Annual National Indian
Timber Symposium that took place in Polson, MT. Jeannie Allen,
a remote sensing education specialist with the Landsat Project,
and Ken Bailey, geospatial liaison between NASA and the Department
of the Interior, helped to assure that the potential contributions
of remote sensing in general and Landsat in particular to
timbering and forestry are well understood by the ITC.
At the symposium, a day-long GIS/Remote Sensing workshop was held.
It attracted about 50 participants (out of about
300 symposium attendees). The group recommended that a central
clearinghouse of remote sensing and GIS resources specifically for Tribal
foresters be created.
