Landsat 7 Project Scientist Retires from NASA

Jan. 29 • After 34-plus years of government service, Dr. Darrel Williams retired on January 29, 2010. Over the tenure of his career, Williams made a lasting impact on the study of the Earth’s land surface using space-based measurements. His scientific leadership of the Landsat program restored the Nation’s capability to observe systematically land surface dynamics on a global basis, and his efforts as the Landsat Project Scientist left a legacy of enlightened mission operations that propagated both to future NASA missions and international programs.
Dot Zucker, Acting Director, Earth Sciences Division, NASA Goddard

Although no longer with NASA, Williams will still be involved with Landsat Science Team activities and the ongoing Landsat Legacy history project.
