Landsat Outreach: Denver Edition

Landsat outreach was in full swing in Denver, Colorado at Geo Week and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) conference. The outreach team was represented by coordinator Allison Nussbaum who supported booths at both events from February 11-17.

Given the collaborative nature of the Landsat program, jointly managed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), teamwork was a natural highlight during Geo Week. Nussbaum supported the USGS booth at Geo Week, communicating the benefits of the Landsat program and how the partnership facilitates the collection and study of invaluable remotely-sensed data.

Later that week, Nussbaum supported the NASA booth at AAAS with a Landsat table full of outreach materials and hand-outs. At the conference, she engaged with attendees and shared the benefits of the Landsat Program. Nussbaum also gave a new Hyperwall presentation titled, “Landsat: Democratizing 50 Years of Earth Observation” to align with the conference theme, “Toward Science Without Walls.” The presentation provided information about the transition of Landsat data from paid to free and open in 2008, and how an open data archive led to the development of various Landsat-derived data products.
