Landsat at AAG Meeting

The 2007 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers (AAG) is taking place this week in San Francisco. Landsat features prominently in over 29 presentations. Landsat presentations cover diverse topics such as: fire impact, land cover change, irrigation water resource management, crop mapping, southern Florida’s urban-rural interface, community vulnerability to tsunami hazards, forest nutrient cycling, Valley Fever pathogen modeling, and monitoring rangeland health.

USGS and NASA are also providing information about the Mid-Decadal Global Land Survey, the Geolocation accuracy of the NASA Landsat GeoCover product, and the U.S. Landsat data archive.
Additionally, a Landsat panel discussion, “The Landsat Mission and Data Continuity,” is being held on Thursday morning. The AAG panel description states: “Panel members will discuss the current satellite data policy and future plans, the Landsat Project, the Landsat Data Continuity Mission, the Landsat Science Team, the possible gap in Landsat data, and the Future of Land Imaging. Representatives from the Office of Science and Technology Policy and the USGS will be present to answer questions and discuss upcoming activities.”
