LDCM Launch Details

Feb. 7, 2013 • With the LDCM launch fast approaching there are a dizzying amount of details out there. Here we attempt to organize some of those launch information resources for you.

About Launch

The Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) will be launched aboard an AtlasV-401 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base SLC-3E on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at 10:02 a.m. PST. The launch window extends from 10:02 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. So far, long term forecasts call for mostly clear skies on launch day. For more LDCM launch news visit:

Feb. 8 – Pre-launch Press Conference

A pre-launch press conference is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. PST on Friday, Feb. 8. This will be broadcast on NASA TV.

Feb. 10 – NASA Social

NASA, Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB), and USGS will be hosting 80 social media experts for the Landsat NASASocial on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST. If you’d like to virtually follow along via Twitter, plan to follow @NASASocial, @NASA_Landsat, @USGSLandsat, and @30thSpaceWing and/or watch the #Landsatand #NASASocial hashtags. Portions of the Social may be broadcast on NASA TV andNASA UStream. Photos will be available on the NASA Flickr page.

Feb. 11 – Public Viewing of the LDCM Launch

Vandenberg Air Force Base and NASA will be hosting a launch viewing party at Providence Landing Park in Lompoc, CA beginning Monday, Feb. 11 at 8:30 a.m. PST.
Mobility, the rock band from United States Air Force Band of the Golden West, is scheduled to perform at 8:30 a.m. Representatives from NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey and 30th Space Wing (VAFB) will be available to answer questions about the Landsat payload and the launch.

Feb. 11 – Virtual Viewing of the LDCM Launch

NASA TV will be streaming the LDCM launch live at http://www.nasa.gov/ntv and on NASA UStream at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ustream.html.
