The 2024 annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) was held in Long Beach, CA from August 4–9. Over 3,000 attendees, including ecologists, educators, field researchers, planners, scientists, resource managers, and students came together to participate in the nation’s largest annual ecological conference.

During the conference, visitors to the NASA exhibit got a glimpse of the many ways NASA Earth missions support ecologic research and applied science. Staff from the Landsat Communication and Public Engagement team was on site in support of that effort.

At the NASA exhibit space, hyperwall talks were given during conference breaks. Two of the talks were heavily focused on Landsat’s contributions to ecology: a talk titled “Landsat+Ecology: Getting to Know our Wide and Wild World” given by Laura Rocchio from the Landsat outreach team, and “Conservation at the Department of Interior” given by Allison Leidner, the Department’s Senior Advisor for Nature Conservation and Management.

Information about the upcoming Landsat Next mission, the active Landsat 8 and 9 missions, Landsat’s history, and applications were shared at the exhibit as well as perennial favorites like The Adventure of Echo the Bat.

Landsat is a joint NASA-U.S. Geological Survey mission.
